Announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2 leaves fans surprised in many ways: News
Its been a big couple weeks for gaming but few are stirring up the kind of attention that the Nintendo Company has recently produced. This week it was announced at Nintendo Direct that the Nintendo Switch two will be released June 5th, 2025. Along with this announcement Nintendo also announced the lineup of games that will be releasing to the Switch 2.
The Nintendo Lineup features the highly anticipated Mario Kart World, a new addition to the Mario Kart franchise that takes a new approach to the circuit style racing, now players will have the ability to drive “Just about anywhere” according to the statements made by the company. The trailer shows off a sizable map that allows players to ditch the track and find new and faster routes in all areas of the game.
A new addition of Donkey Kong will also be released for the Switch 2 with a couple unique features that will set it apart from other editions to the series in the past. The developers chose to make the environment completely destructible allowing Donkey Kong to utilize new moves, attacks and combos as well as completely destroy the map with his powerful pouches. The story looks at DK fighting a mysterious new group of enemies called the Void Co which seek to steal DK’s favorite food, diamond bananas. As Donkey Kong breaks through the ground level by level to find new and different levels each with a unique atmosphere.
Kirby wasn’t forgotten about either with the new Kirby Air Riders also coming to the new console, a resurrection of the Kirby racing game from the Gamecube. Not much information has been released on this title but from the short video Nintendo has shown fans it’s clear it’s still going to have that classic Kirby feel fans know and love.
The final title I want to touch on is The Dusk Bloods, a new game from Hidetaka Miyazaki and FromSoftware that will be a souls like game exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. FromSoftware has Elden Ring and Dark Souls both of which are considered to be phenomenal games with a die hard fan base determined to play them. The game featured a few bosses and a dark and mysterious world waiting to be explored.
Fans are definitely excited to get their hands on the Switch 2 and all the games that come with it but first anyone who wants one is going to have to pay a hefty price. The Nintendo Switch 2 starts out at $449.99 USD and for the Mario Kart Worlds bundled with the Switch it comes to $499.99 USD. That’s a sharp increase compared to its predecessor that started at only $299.99 USD. Fans were also quick to point out that even at the higher price tag the graphic quality of the Nintendo Switch 2 is about as good as a Playstation 4 pro which is vastly behind other modern at home consoles. Along with this price increase Mario Kart Worlds is having a starting price of $79.99 USD for a non physical copy and $89.99 USD for a physical copy, fans of the franchise fear that the price increase may set a new standard as far as the starting price on fan favorite titles, many of these fans racing to social media platforms like Tiktok to talk about their concerns.
The Total pricing if buying everything Nintendo has to offer comes out to $1,031.90 USD which is quite a steep price to pay for the average fan, but if that price isn’t something that scares you away and you are interested in purchasing a Nintendo Switch 2 you can already register for presale at Nintendo.com by simply signing into your Nintendo account and setting up your payment options, note that in the US and Canada the Nintendo Account has to be registered under a user that is 18+. Nintendo also notes that deliveries are not guaranteed by the day of release due to shipping times and processing.
